Promising and Refreshing

“A story in a prose voice, keeping the reader in a position of uncertainty but avidity to know more and watch the plot unveil... A novel and refreshing story with cultural and historical knowledge too rare... even more about this period of history and POV. A seemingly flawless writing technically wise to me... Living and breathing characters, flawlessly given life and presence.”

— Royal Road Reader Review

The Piratess calls to readers craving raw, unvarnished historical chronicles. The generous reflection from an anonymous reader on Royal Road captured the heart of this project - a perspective in human history shared in a visceral, unsparing voice.

The Complete Reader Review of Part I

“A story in a prose voice, keeping the reader in a position of uncertainty but avidity to know more and watch the plot unveil before him. A fast paced story that lacks a bit of markers and informations to ease the timelapses and transformations of the characters throughout the story.

A novel and refreshing story with cultural and historical knowledge too rare in Royal Road, even more about this period of history and POV.

A seemingly flawless writing technically wise to me. Not much more to say since I am no specialist or even that good in English myself.

Living and breathing characters, flawlessly given life and presence. Maybe more description about their appearance would be appreciated.

I've given an overall score of 3.5 stars because the story has a lot of potential and is a refreshing change from most of what we can find on Royal Road, but the lack of numbers in the chapters makes it hard to follow, the difficulty to follow the jumps in time through the story are what kept me from a full five or four stars. Maybe a bit more insight in the Yoruba culture would have been appreciated too.

Thank you very much for this story, I can't wait for what is to follow.”
